SAPS Men For Change to host awareness campaign to stop violence against women, children and vulnerable groups

The South African Police Service (SAPS) through its Men for Change structure, will host a SAPS men mobilisation awareness campaign in Pretoria to stop violence against women, children and vulnerable groups.

The awareness campaign  led by the men in blue seeks to raise awareness on the scourge of violence with a view of mobilising society to play an active role in assisting the work of the Police in detecting, preventing and fighting Gender-Based Violence within communities.

The campaign will draw at least 1500 male police officers.

The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele and male senior management from the Department of Police will lead the campaign. Metro Police, IPID, PSIRA and members of the Civilian Secretariat of the Police Service will also form part of the campaign.

Proceedings will commence at Church Square, proceed to Sunnyside Police Station wherein the Minister of Police will conduct a compliance visit to assess on how victims of GBV are being treated at police stations. The Minister will also utilise the platform to educate the nation on what steps ought to be followed when reporting a case of GBV. 

From Sunnyside Police Station, the awareness campaign will proceed to Jubilee Park where the Minister and male senior management of the SAPS will address the men in blue.
