SAPS hosts build-up activities in run-up to National Police Day

The South African Police Service (SAPS) will host a series of activities and events in the build up to National Police Day which is scheduled to take place on the 27th of January 2020. In 2005 Cabinet approved 27 January as National Police Day. On National Police Day, the South African Police Service remembers the sacrifices that our men and women in blue have made and continue to make as they provide safety for all who live in South Africa.

The Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele, the Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Cassel Mathale and the National Commissioner, General Khehla Sitole of the SAPS will lead a delegation of senior leadership and members of the Service in celebration of the build-up activities that will take place as follows:

SAPS Golf Day and Prize Giving Dinner

Overview: The Golf Challenge is a charity/fundraising event which aims to raise funds for the South African Police Service Education Trust (SAPSET).The main objective of the SAPSET is to create a fund for children of members of the South African Police Service employed in terms of the Police Act as well as the Public Service Act that died in the execution of duties by financing the costs of such children’s educational needs.

Handing Over of a House

Overview:  As part of its Corporate Social  Initiative (CSI), the SAPS will hand over a three-bedroom house to 79 year old Sisana Muad Mbinambina who has been living in a one room shack with her daughter and five grandchildren at NU12 Motherwell. The grandchildren are aged between 6 and 11 years old. Mrs Mbinambina’s pension money is the only source of income in her household.

National Excellence Awards

Overview: The National Excellence Awards is an event aimed at recognising and rewarding outstanding performance, exceptional devotion to community relations and extraordinary courage within the South African Police Service. The awards ceremony boasts more than 30 categories including the National Commissioner’s Awards and the Ministry Awards.

Venue: Boardwalk Hotel and Casino, Port Elizabeth.

National Police Day

Overview:  Cabinet has set aside this day to allow SAPS management to reflect on the previous year, appreciate serving members as well as to pay homage to fallen heroes. The theme for this year is “SAPS members – Keep flying the flag of SAPS high”.
