Road Traffic Management Corporation kick starts Easter law enforcement operations, 31 Mar

Easter law enforcement operations get underway in anticipation of increased traffic volumes

Traffic law enforcement officers are expected to stage massive operations on major routes from tomorrow in anticipation of increased traffic volumes ahead of the Easter long weekend.

The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, will join the officers in one of the operations. He is expected to give a word of support and motivation to officers who will be working throughout the Easter period to address drunken driving, speeding and lawlessness on the roads.

The Minister will also get an opportunity to see how the latest technology provided to traffic officers works in a real-life situation. Body cameras, drones and high speed vehicles are some of the high technological interventions that are being deployed this Easter to improve the enforcement of traffic laws.

The Easter road safety campaign will proceed beyond the forth-coming Easter weekend this year and will incorporate the Freedom Day long weekend (April 27) and Workers Day holiday on May 1.

Road safety educationists and activists will increase the visibility of their campaign in known high accident spots to discourage pedestrians from using highways during the busy travel period.

Media houses are invited to the law enforcement operation that will kick-start the Easter period as follows:
Date: 31 March 2021
