MEC Madoda Sambatha urges Health Care Workers to get vaccinated

North West Health MEC urges over 20 000 registered healthcare workers to vaccinate

The North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha is urging all registered Health Care Workers in the Province to get vaccinated without any delay.

The Department of Health in North West launched the vaccination programme for healthcare workers on 18 March 2021 in Klerksdorp. Since then over 40 000 individuals health professionals have registered on the provincial Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS). Unfortunately to date only 22558 healthcare workers have been vaccinated.

“Phase 1 of the vaccination campaign has been dedicated to healthcare workers. At this stage, registration for phase 2 is has started with plans to commence with vaccination on 17 May 2021 of individuals over the age of 60. Therefore, high number of healthcare workers who are not yet vaccinated is quite alarming and will compound challenges and negatively contribute to workload if left unattended”, lamented MEC Sambatha

Healthcare workers are therefore urged to follow-up with the Sisonke portal to, if already registered, refresh registration. Check your text messages (You may have missed a message sending you a fresh link to the Sisonke portal, sent from 26 April 2021 onward). Please note that vouchers received before 26 April are no longer valid. Respond to text message inviting you to participate. Once you have completed the consent process, keep an eye out for an SMS with your new voucher number.

The MEC would also like to take this opportunity to remind all Traditional Health Practitioners to take advantage of this opportunity to register and get vaccinated.

The benefit of vaccination which is to ensure population immunity is essential particularly healthcare workers who are a vulnerable group and are at the forefront of the fight against Covid-19.

The Department continues to encourage adherence to all prevention measures against COVID-19. Vaccine is only one of the measures used to curb the spread of the virus. It does not replace social distancing, wearing masks and sanitizing.
