Minister Angie Motshekga hosts #Read2Lead and #SecondChance Campaign ministerial roadshow, 24 Aug

Minister Angie Motshekga takes second chance matric support program and Read to Lead Campaign to Bloemfontein

The Basic Education Minister, Mrs Angie Motshekga will tomorrow, Saturday, 24 August 2019 take the Department’s #Read2Lead and #SecondChance Kagisho Comprehensive Secondary School in Mangaung, Bloemfontein, Free State. The Minister will be supported by the MEC of Education in the Free State province Dr Tate Makgoe.

The National Senior Certificate Learner Retention Programme, also known as the Second Chance Matric Support Programme, was launched in 2016 to respond to the NDP’s injunction that retention rates should be improved; and drop-out rates reduced. The Second Chance provides support to learners who want to rewrite subjects. It helps them to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate (SC) and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate.

The focus of the Read to Lead Campaign is to improve the reading abilities of all South African children whilst the main aim of the Campaign is to ensure that all learners are able to demonstrate age appropriate levels of reading. The Campaign calls on a variety of partners and stakeholders to engage in developing and maintaining a reading culture.

During the roadshows, the Minister and the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, publicize information about the some selected Programmes that include SCMP, Read to Lead Campaign, Career Jamboree, Fundza Lushaka Bursary Scheme, Safety in schools, Quality of Learning and Teaching Campaign, and Services available through the DHET Khetha Centre. Members of the public are invited to raise any queries that they may have during the Question-and-Answer Session.
