President Cyril Ramaphosa on passing of former United Nation Secretary-General Kofi Annan

On behalf of the Government and the People of South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his sincere condolences at the untimely passing of Mr Kofi Atta Annan, the first African UN Secretary-General from Sub Sahara.

Speaking shortly before his departure from Windhoek where he attended the 38th Ordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), President Ramaphosa said Mr Annan’s death was a great shock and loss to the global community.

President Ramaphosa paid tribute to Mr Annan “as a great leader and diplomat extraordinaire” who had advanced the African Agenda within the United Nations and had “flown the flag for peace” around the world.
