President Cyril Ramaphosa opens virtual launch of UN Report on Coronavirus COVID-19 Impact on women and children, 13 Jul

President Ramaphosa will today, Monday, 13 July 2020, open and address the virtual launch of the United Nations Secretary General’s Independent Accountability Panel 2020 Report.

The launch is themed “From Page to Action: Accountability for the Furthest Left Behind during COVID-19 & Beyond”.

The UN Secretary-General’s Independent Accountability Panel for Every Woman Every Child produced a landmark report which brings attention to data and accountability for the rights of women, children and adolescents health through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

This flagship virtual high-level event is co-hosted by the Governments of Japan, South Africa and Georgia aims to:

  • Bring visibility to the critical importance of health accountability as a practical tool to ensure countries deliver on the promise of universal health coverage for women, children, adolescents and those furthest left behind;
  • Energise and inspire stakeholders to act on the Independent Accountability Panel 2020 Report recommendations to strengthen social-political accountability, especially at the country-level, and make health accountability everyone’s business;
