Premier Sihle Zikalala attends memorial service of 16 victims killed in a road crash between Melmoth and Ulundi, 29 Oct

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala will tomorrow, Thursday, 29 October 2020, lead a government delegation to attend the memorial service of 16 victims who were killed in a tragic road accident on the R34 between Melmoth and Ulundi last week Wednesday.

The memorial service of the 16 people will take place in Nongoma, at KwaGqikazi Sports Ground, tomorrow at 12h00.

The Premier has on behalf of the KwaZulu-Natal Government extended condolences to the bereaved families.

This horrific accident happened when a minibus taxi collided head-on with a truck and upon impact the minibus taxi caught alight claiming the lives of 16 people, including both drivers. Three victims from the minibus taxi were burnt beyond recognition and DNA testing are being conducted to authenticate the remains of the deceased.

Premier Zikalala will be joined by MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Bheki Ntuli and leadership if the Zululand District.
