Premier Mokgoro challenges Moedwil Combined class of 2019 to double efforts

North West Premier, Prof Job Mokgoro has this morning, Tuesday, encouraged learners at Moedwil Combined, a farm school situated about 30km east of Swartruggens in Bojanala Platinum District, to set their minds on their school work in order for them to obtain good results at the end of the year.

Premier Mokgoro who visited the school as part of the provincial Back-to-School campaign, was joined by the MEC for Education and Sport Development, Sello Lehari and departmental officials,.

Mokgoro challenged the school to improve its 2019 matric results, saying both learners and teachers must demonstrate high levels of commitment to the studies.

“We are here to see if teaching and learning is taking place as planned, and to encourage our learners to work hard so that they can get best results at the end of the year.

We are so far pleased by the keenness to do better as shown by teachers and learners. There is generally a good sense of discipline in this school, and the environment is conducive enough for effective teaching and learning to take place,” said Premier Mokgoro adding that all stakeholders hope to see improved results at the end of this year.

Moedwil Combined has obtained 70 percent pass rate in 2018 as compared to their 85 percent in 2017.

The School Principal, Mr Godfrey Dube said the Premier’s visit to his school served as motivation for more efforts to be implored, saying they have set the school a target of 80% pass rate for the matric class of 2019.

"We have prepared well for this year, and we hope 2019 will be our best year,” he said.

Feeling encouraged, one of the learners, Tshegofatso Mothibi expressed her excitement after speaking to the Premier for the first time in her school.

“I felt very happy today because the Premier of our province visited our school and motivated us to study harder.

As learners, we are looking forward to our studies, and we commit the make the Premier proud come January 2020 when matric results are released”, remarked Tshegofatso who said her target is to obtain at least three distinctions at the end of the year.
