Premier Job Mokgoro on rehabilitated P3/4 Road on N12

Rehabilitated road to attract investors and boost local economy – Premier Mokgoro

North West Premier, Professor Job Mokgoro believes the newly rehabilitated P3/4 Road on the N12 at Klerksdorp will attract investors to Matlosana Local Municipality and the province at large and boost the local economy. Premier Mokgoro who was accompanied by MEC for Public Works and Roads Mmule Maluleke, was addressing Matlosana residents during the official opening of the road before unveiling the plaque. The 5,3 kilometres of P3/4 road which links Johannesburg and Cape Town, carries over 1000 trucks per day. This road was rehabilitated at a cost of R56 million. Premier Mokgoro said the road infrastructure has become one of the most important of all public assets which should be taken care of.

“Roads are a crucial contribution to economic development and growth in any country as they continue to bring important social benefits as well as economic activity stimulation. They can make the nation to grow and develop, and as a country and province, we are not immune to that growth and development effect brought about by a well-developed road network” said Premier Mokgoro.

Appointed local sub-contractors who were on CIDB Grade 1CE, did the road markings, kerbing, edge beams, paving as well as drainage amongst others.

Premier Mokgoro said they are proud that emerging contractors have benefitted from the rehabilitation of the road and skills were also transferred to young people.

“We have also witnessed the fact that from the over R56-million government invested in the project, R15,7 milllion went to ten (10) sub-contractors and this has the capability of contributing to them attaining a higher CIDB grading in the near future. Job training and skills development was also provided throughout the project’’ concluded Professor Mokgoro who commended the Department of Public Works and Roads on this noble initiative saying government will continue to empower and improve the lives of our people, especially women and youth because it is a caring government.
