Message to healthcare workers:

For most, 2020 has been a difficult year as a result of Covid-19 and the impact of the lockdown. Throughout this year, the healthcare workers of this province have been on the frontline, fighting to save lives, and caring for those who need it.

And while many residents will now be winding down for the festive season, our doctors, nurses, all of our other healthcare workers and hospital staff will continue providing care to those who need it.

These dedicated and selfless men and women have worked long hours, at great risk to themselves. We owe them all a debt of gratitude but most of all, we owe it to them all to flatten the curve. Over the past few weeks, we have seen hospital numbers climbing as a result of a resurgence of infections, putting addtional pressure on our hospital system and our frontline workers.

By protecting ourselves and our loved ones, we can also help protect our healthcare workers.

I therefore reiterate my call for everyone to take precautions- to wear our masks, wash our hands, practice social distancing and to avoid crowded places, confined spaces and close contact.

Excessive and abusive use of alcohol will also increase pressure on our healthcare facilities so I appeal to all residents to drink responsibly, and not to drink and drive.
