Premier Alan Winde confirms total of 323 711 cases of Coronavirus COVID-19 in Western Cape

As at 1pm on 30 June 2021, the Western Cape had 18 518 active COVID-19 infections, with a total number of 323 711 COVID-19 cases to date and 292 841 recoveries.

The Western Cape’s dashboard has recorded 25 additional deaths since it last updated on Tuesday, 29 June, bringing the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province to 12 352. It should be noted that the total number is inclusive of deaths in the last week which have recently been updated. We send our condolences to the loved ones of those who have passed.

Registrations for 50+ to open tomorrow

As announced by the Acting National Minister of Health, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, registration for those aged between 50 to 59 will open tomorrow. Vaccinations of those aged 50 to 59 begins on 15 July.

This is in addition to those residents who are 60 years and older, who continue to be able to register for their vaccine if they decide to.

I had requested this change at the President’s Coordinating Council to ensure a swift transition to the next age group. This is an important step to ensure that we are ready for the next phase in the vaccination programme.

I look forward to being among those who will register for their vaccines tomorrow and encourage others who are eligible to do so.

The vaccine is safe and thoroughly tested and provides excellent protection against severe COVID-19 related illness and death.
