MEC Mamabolo to launch a two-week pothole patching project in Sedibeng as part of Mandela Month

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Mr Jacob Mamabolo, will on Thursday, 18 July 2019, lead a delegation of Department’s senior managers to a pothole patching project in various areas around the Sedibeng District Municipality.

The delegation will visit areas in Bophelong, Sebokeng, Evaton, Sharpeville, Steel Park and Vereeniging to fill potholes and other road defects on various provincial routes in the Vaal area.

Mandela Day serves as a call to people around the world to spend at least 67 minutes doing positive acts for their communities. It also serves to honour 67 years the late South African President, Nelson Mandela, spent fighting for social justice, equality and democracy.

MEC Mamabolo remarked that “the Department has plans to continually improve its rehabilitation and maintenance programmes, in order to facilitate the provision of a world-class road infrastructure, improved safety and mobility whilst promoting small and emerging contractors”.

The MEC will also use the event to highlight the importance of keeping the road infrastructure in good driving conditions, free from vandalism whilst also addressing issues of illegal dumping.

  • Bophelong:Mandela Street, Dube Street and Currie Boullevard Sebokeng: Road 7 (Zone 14)

  • Sharpeville: Dubula Drive, Zwane and K55
  • Evaton: Evaton West Extension 15, Chief Mbambatha Street

  • Steelpark: Ferrum Road

  • Vereeniging: Senator, Marks Avenue
