Pholosong Hospital launches Doctor in my Classroom outreach programme at Geluksdal Secondary, Tsakane

Pholosong Hospital will on 8 February 2019 launch the Dr in My Classroom outreach programme at Geluksdal Secondary school in Tsakane. The Dr in My Classroom programme aims to bring young doctors and other health professionals to schools to engage young people in KwaThema, Tsakane and Duduza, communities which are serviced by the hospital, on sexual health, teenage pregnancy, and suicide as well as of mob justice injuries. The launch of the programme coincides with Reproductive Health Month and it is just before the start of STI/Condom Week which runs from the 12-16 February 2019.

Over the years, Pholosong Hospital has seen alarming numbers of cases of teenage pregnancy, substance abuse related incidents, suicides as well as serious assault cases involving young people. The figures associated with these social ills  not only impact negatively on the outcomes of the hospital but  also raise a serious concern about the future and health of the community of Kwatsaduza which  heavily depend on Pholosong Hospital to access public health services.

The mandate of Gauteng Department of Health is not only to provide health care services to the public but also, it is to promote healthy and responsible lifestyles through education, preventative programmes and awareness initiatives.
