Parliament bids farewell to retiring Constitutional Court Justice Sisi Khampepe and Justice Chris Jafta

The Presiding Officers, led by the National Assembly Speaker Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and the National Council of Provinces Chairperson Mr Amos Masondo, paid tribute to the retiring Constitutional Court Justice Sisi Khampepe and Justice Chris Jafta.

The two justices, who are hanging up their gowns of service, have more than three decades of long service in the legal field and 12 of those years in the Constitutional Court of South Africa. They are recognised for their role in affirming and strengthening the rule of law, the evolution and transformation of the judicial system, and ensuring the independence of each of the three arms of the state.

“We will forever be indebted to them for selfless services they rendered to various South African courts and the indelible contribution they made to the development of the law of our country,” said Presiding Officers.

“Their commitment, tenacity and diligence when dealing with constitutional matters of this country is a legacy that will go down in our history as best practices worthy of emulation by various judicial systems around the world. We salute them for remaining faithful to the rule of law and for protecting the supremacy of the Constitution of this country. They served in the apex court at a critical time when the tenacity of our constitutional democracy was extensively tested and reached new heights of maturity,” added the Presiding Officers.

We wish them a good, well deserved and happy retirement.
