North West Legislature conducts public hearings on 2017 Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Amendment Bill, 8 Nov

On Wednesday, 8 November 2017, the North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs will be conducting public hearings on the Traditional Leadership and Government Framework Amendment Bill 2017 in Baralong Boora Tlou Ba Ga Seitshiro in Khunwana; James Motlatsi Hall in Vaalreefs near Orkney; Taung Depot Hall and Legonyane Community Hall at 09h00.

The bills seeks to amend the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act, 2003, so as to make provision for extended timeframes within which kingship of queenship councils and traditional councils must be established. It also aims to provide for extended timeframes within which community authorities have to be disestablished and to align the term of office of tribal authorities, traditional councils and kingship or queenship councils with the term of the National House of Traditional Leaders; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

Members of the media are invited to attend the public hearing and they can contact Namhla Luhabe on 079 527 0628 for further information.
