North West Legislature Community Safety committee applauds SAPS for arrests of alleged suspects on murders of two police officers at Mareetsane
The North West Provincial Legislature's Portfolio Committee on Public Works, Roads, Community Safety and Transport Management led by Hon. Onicca Medupe has applauded South African Police Services together with Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (The Hawks) for swift arrests of alleged suspects who were involved on the murders of Two members of the South African Police Services stationed in Mareetsane village near Mahikeng.
Two bodies of the two Police Officers, the late Constable Simon Ngakaemang Ntsekeletsa and Sergeant Mojalefa Horatius Molete, 42 were found on a burnt state vehicle at Logageng Village, almost 200km away from Mareetsane Police Station where they were stationed. It is alleged that the two officers who were on patrol duty at the Mareetsane Police Station, came across a vehicle loaded with suspected stolen goats around 9pm on Tuesday. They telephonically reported the incident at the station, but never arrived or managed to apprehend the alleged suspects as intended.
Hon. Medupe said although the Committee appreciates the work of the South African Police Services on the arrests of the five alleged suspects, it is unfortunate that the two police officers lost their lives when they were respectively serving the communities.
“We are very thankful and appreciate the tireless effort taken by members of the community, law enforcers to capture perpetrators who committed this insidious act. This was not a one-man show but a community call heeded to bring unity and order in the community of the Mareetsane and other areas in the North West province.
“The Committee further sends its condolences to families of the bereaved and hope that they may find solace and comfort in the arrest of suspects and ensure that they serve justice when they appear in court due on the 30 July 2021,” said Hon. Medupe.
