Premier of the North West Province, Supra Mahumapelo, will on Friday, 26 January 2018, deliver a send-off message to a group of 43 students selected to study aviation and technical skills at the Denel Technical Academy in Kempton Park, Gauteng Province. The send-off ceremony will be held at Bakgatla Gate Resort in Moruleng, at 14h00.
Recruited in line with the Memorandum of Agreement the North West Provincial Government entered into with Denel Technical Academy in 2016, the students who were selected after a thorough selection process by Denel Technical Academy, will be enrolled for a 3-year study programme on Monday, 29th January 2018 in Kempton Park. The group is made up of matriculants and students with National Certificate Vocational (NCV) level 3, with at least 50 % pass in Mathematics and Science.
Pronounced by Premier Mahumapelo during his 2017 State of the Province Address as part of the strategy to develop aviation and technical skills in the province, the agreement with Denel Technical Academy will also provide for the establishment of a Denel Satellite Technical Academy in Mahikeng under the Office of the Premier - Ikatisong School of Governance.
The second phase of this agreement will result in the opening of a fully built Denel Academy Facility at the Mahikeng International Airport, where students will complete their practical training before their placement with selected industry employers for on-the-job-training and preparation for final accreditation as qualified artisans in their chosen trades; that is Aircraft Mechanic, Welder, Fitter & Turner and Electrical.
The project is implemented in partnership with provincial Departments of Community Safety & Transport Management and Public Works & Roads.
