KwaZulu-Natal Economic Development congratulates MEC Sihle Zikalala on Premier nomination

KZN EDTEA congratulates Mr Sihle Zikalala on his nomination as a Premier candidate

The nomination of Mr Sihle Zikalala as KwaZulu-Natal Premier Candidate is being celebrated by a burst of congratulations within the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and its entities.

The African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee yesterday conferred its highest trust on Mr Zikalala when it announced him as its preferred candidate for the topmost provincial post.

Mr Zikalala, the ANC Chairperson in KwaZulu-Natal, has since 2016 been the provincial Leader of Government Business and the MEC for EDTEA which also has 11 entities.

During this short period, Mr Zikalala has been lauded for being a visionary trailblazer after he introduced ground-breaking government programmes that have dramatically changed the economic landscape of the province.

“Mr Zikalala has been an ebullient, energetic and visionary leader within the EDTEA family. His contribution in a very short space of time has been immeasurable. We congratulate him on his nomination as a premier candidate and we have no doubt that he will also excel at his new post,” said Acting EDTEA Head of Department, Mr Siza Sibande.

Under Mr Zikalala’s stewardship, KwaZulu-Natal has successfully worked with different social partners to create a conducive environment for the economy to grow and attracted investments worth billions of rands, Mr Sibande added.

“He has pioneered many flagship programmes that have even caught the eye of other provinces which now want to adopt them. Among them is the Radical Agrarian Socio Economic Transformation (RASET) which has empowered many emerging farmers and the Bulk Buying and Ware housing programme which empowers township and rural traders,” he said.

The Business Regulations programme aimed at clamping down on illegal business enterprises was also a resounding success, Mr Sibande added.

The proliferation of these illegal businesses has caused severe anger among KwaZulu-Natal residents and traders alike.
