National Planning Commission hosts virtual dialogue on a National Water Security Framework for South Africa, 19 Feb

Invitation to participate in virtual dialogue on a National Water Security Framework for South Africa: 19 February 2021

The National Planning Commission (NPC) invites you to participate in a virtual dialogue on its proposed National Water Security Framework (NWSF). The dialogue is part of the NPC’s campaign to communicate and engage with key stakeholders on the work it has done in the past five years to inform improved implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP).

The threat to water security has always been an issue of concern in South Africa. The NWSF engages with the extent of this threat and the mitigating actions required in the short, medium and long term. It also frames a national pathway for water security up to 2050, a pathway which positions water as an enabler of inclusive economic growth, poverty eradication and reducing inequality - the apex priorities of the NDP.

During the dialogue, the NPC will present highlights, challenges and recommendations contained in the NWSF. This engagement will provide an opportunity for civil society, academia, government and water sector experts to interact with the NPC’s position and views on key issues regarding the status of water in the country.

The details of the dialogue are as follows:
Date: 19 February 2021
Time: 09:00 until 12:30
