The report of the Portfolio Committee on Police recommending the adoption of the Minister of Police’s recommendation not to renew the term of office of Mr Robert McBride as Executive Director of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate was agreed to by the National Assembly this afternoon.
The decision of the House follows National Assembly Speaker’s referral of the Minister’s recommendation to the Committee in February.
The Portfolio Committee on Police embarked on a process in line with the Section 57 of the Constitution and the rules of the House that empowers a Committee to determine the procedure to be followed in dealing with such referrals.
