President Cyril Ramaphosa replies to oral questions in National Assembly, 12 Nov

President Cyril Ramaphosa will appear before the National Assembly (NA) in a hybrid plenary sitting to answer questions for oral reply tomorrow at 15h00.

Holding regular oral question and answer sessions is one of the mechanisms in which Parliament fulfils its Constitutional obligations to hold the Executive to account. Oral question sessions with the President are scheduled at least once a quarter during session time within Parliament’s annual programme. Up to six questions about matters of national or international importance may be asked during the three-hour session.

The six questions scheduled for tomorrow’s oral questions session with the President cover a range of issues, including:

With reference to the President’s statement in his State of the Nation Address on 13 February 2020 - what are the specified relevant details of the main steps that the various law enforcement agencies involved with the identification and prosecution of state capture and corruption have taken in response to the measures implemented by the Government since 25 May 2019?

Whether his insistence to fight the Public Protector in court, in order to seal bank statements of accounts of persons who contributed to his campaign to be elected as the president of his political organisation, undermines the government’s fight against rampant corruption?

What further steps will the government take to address the polarisation of the society, especially along racial lines, which undermines the non-racial and united character of the Republic as illustrated by the recent protests in Senekal following the brutal murder of a farmworker which have raised serious issues about the agenda of building a nation united in its diversity, etc.
