Minister Susan Shabangu briefs SASSA beneficiaries on arrangements for September grant payment cycle, 31 Aug

Minister Shabangu to inform SASSA Beneficiaries about arrangements for the September Grant Payment Cycle

SASSA has, in recent months, been earnestly involved in the process to migrate beneficiaries of social grants from the old SASSA card to the new gold card, in what has become popularly known as the card swap project. To achieve this, SASSA has partnered with the South African Post Office (SAPO) which will take over form Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) as the new service provider responsible for the disbursements of social grants. By the directive of the Constitutional Court SAPO is required to take over the process of disbursement of social grants form CPS, whose extended contract with SASSA expires on 31 September 2018.

In spite of the progress made, there remains unjustified criticism from sceptics who continue to create panic among beneficiaries of social grants.  Such critics create an impression that the transition from CPS to SASSA is laden with numerous logistical problems.

Minister Shabangu is expected to share evidence with the nation that SASSA has made tremendous strides in meeting the requirements of the Constitutional Court that will see SAPO take over payment functions from CPS as from 1 October. This includes pilot sites around the country where SAPO successfully issued cash payment of social grants to beneficiaries. Another milestones includes the improvement of SAPO systems to meet with the ICT standards in the banking industry.

Members of the media are therefore invited to a press conference that will be addressed by Minister Shabangu of the Department of Social Development under the following arrangements:

Date: Friday, 31 August 2018
Time: 13:00
Venue: Southern Sun OR Tambo Airport
