Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams addresses 2019 FTTX Council Africa Conference, 8 Oct

The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, will deliver an opening address at the 2019 FTTX Council Africa Conference taking place on 8 October 2019 in Sandton. Organised by the FTTX Council, the conference is a premier event in the Fibre Optic Industry, bringing together over 1000 industry leaders from across the globe. This year’s conference seeks to explore the world of fibre and 5G, as well as the impact on the industry and the investment opportunities it holds for the continent.

The conference comes at a time when the Ministry of Communications and Digital Technologies is charged with leading the country’s response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In this regard, fibre continues to play an integral role in infrastructure rollout, including 5G which will enable enhanced mobile broadband, massive machine-type communications, ultra-reliable and low latency communications. For high speeds in 5G, there is a required obligation to provide access to a fibre access network, which is required for mobile backhaul, thus positioning fibre amongst the most critical components of telecommunications infrastructure.
