Minister Lindiwe Sisulu conducts Human Settlements Indaba, 6 Mar

Minister Sisulu calls on stakeholders to support government’s programme to transform human settlements into well-functioning, socially and economically integrated places

The Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu, MP, will convene a Human Settlement Indaba, the first to be held in the 6th administration.

In line with this administration pronouncements and the 2019-2024 Medium Term Strategic Framework on the importance of transforming human settlements into well-functioning, socially and economically integrated places, the Indaba will strengthen strategic partnerships with sector stakeholders to realise spatial transformation, adequate housing and security of tenure through the provision of 1 million housing opportunities and an improved quality of living environments.

This will ensure that the department and various stakeholders that have seen the delivery of over 4 million housing opportunities since the dawn of democracy while transforming the lives of over 16 million people continue on the same trajectory to partner with government on its mandate to better the lives of South Africans.

The Indaba is expected to be attended by the Ministries of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Public Works and Infrastructure, Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, MECs of Human Settlements, Mayors, banking institutions, developers, civil society and community-based organisations.

A declaration on strategic partnerships to transform human settlements for spatial justice and social cohesion is expected to be adopted at the end of Indaba by all participants.
