Minister Mchunu to address water related issues with UGu District communities

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr Senzo Mchunu and the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Sihle Zikalala, will lead a delegation from the Department of Water and Sanitation, the Province, together with the officials from UGu District Municipality to address the concerns raised by the communities on water issues in the District. The Minister will engage with the community members at UGu Sports and Leisure Complex

UGu District Municipality comprises of four local municipalities i.e Ray Nkonyeni LM, Umuziwabantu LM, Umndoni LM and Umzumbe LM.

The District has a population of more than 898 000 people. In the past recent months, the municipality has been struggling to supply water in the district and this has led to residents protesting in the streets and destroying infrastructure. As a result, the municipality’s ability to provide constant water supply has been compromised.

Minister Mchunu and Premier Zikalala will therefore engage with members of the community to enlighten them about the measures that will be implemented to restore uninterrupted supply to communities, and also the plans to restore damaged water infrastructure in the area.

Members of the media are invited to engage with the Minister and Premier as follows:

Date: Friday, 24 June 2022
