Minister of Police, Mr Fikile Mbalula has learnt with great shock about the shooting in Cape Town International Airport, Western Cape

Minister of Police, Mr Fikile Mbalula has learnt with great shock about the shooting that happened at Cape Town International Airport, this morning. In the early hours of this morning approximately 05:15am, a man was shot and wounded at the drop off area at the Cape Town International Airport.

During the shooting another man, was struck by a stray bullet. “It is of great concern that innocent people get shot, we must collectively do everything in our power to silence guns, in particular the Western Cape, Cape Town.” Mbalula said.

Minister Fikile Mbalula launched an integrated Multi-Disciplinary Tactical Security Plan, on the 21 July 2017, at OR Tambo Airport. The Cape Town International Airport is also a national key point. Many visitors in South Africa who come in the Western Cape, use Cape Town International Airport to visit many parts of Western Cape.

“We need to up our security in this port as we have done at OR Tambo International Airport, where we have seen great progress, airports are not only ports of entry, but a first encounter that our visitors judge our country. Therefore this incident has a far devastating effect for our tourism industry and job creation.” Mbalula added.

The Minister urged the Police to find the shooters of Cape Town International Airport and bring them to book, Minister Mbalula further instructed the Police to treat Cape Town International Airport, like a national key point and up the security at the Airport.
