Minister Nzimande to visit North West Province on SIP 4 project aimed at growing the economy of the North-West Province

Minister of Transport, Dr Blade Nzimande, will be visiting the North-West province today, 12 April 2019, to receive a progress report on the implementation of SIP 4 projects in the North West province.

The Minister will be joined by the North West Premier, Prof Job Mokgoro, members of the Provincial Executive Council and national Administrators of affected departments such as the Department of Transport and Public Works.

Government established 18 Strategic Infrastructure Projects (SIP 1 to SIP 18) that are earmarked to accelerate infrastructure delivery in various sectors of our economy.

These SIPS aims to address major challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality.

Government is committed to accelerate the deployment of infrastructure to stimulate economic growth and development.

“This is consistent with the programme of government to address the triple challenges inequality, poverty and unemployment that is affecting our people daily, particularly women, the youth and people living with disabilities,” said Minister Nzimande.

Minister Nzimande further said that there is no doubt that overcoming the legacy of over three centuries of apartheid and colonialism will require a great deal of focus and hard work.

SIP 4 was launched in June 2012 to facilitate further economic growth in the North West Province through the acceleration of the roll out of water, road, rail and electricity infrastructure.

The scope was later expanded to include schools, health, water and sanitation, agriculture and communication, particularly the broadband rollout.

To ensure effective and efficient implementation of the (SIP 4) project, the PICC appointed the Minister of Transport as the Political Champion of SIP4 and to work closely with the Premier of the North-West Province and also to report to the PICC MANCO.

On the technical site, the PICC appointed the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) as SIP 4 Coordinator on all activities relating to infrastructure in the province by collecting information, preparing and submitting reports for approval by the Minister of Transport for the PICC on quarterly basis.
