The Minister of Transport, Dr. Blade Nzimande, together with the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr. Willies Mchunu, will host an Imbizo with the community of Zululand in Vryheid at the KwaNgenetsheni Sports Ground, KwaKhence (Ward 3) on Saturday 16th March 2019 from 9h00 am.
This Imbizo takes place as part of the Department of Transport 365 Days Road Safety campaign and is part of the government-wide initiative to promote active engagement between citizens and government.
The Imbizo is premised on promoting two-way communication and participation by all sectors of society in government’s key programmes and to directly engage government on issue affecting them.
During the Imbizo, Minister Nzimande and Premier Mchunu will share critical information about infrastructure programmes in KwaZulu Natal aimed at redressing the triple scourge of unemployment, inequalities and poverty.
The Road Accident Fund (RAF) will originate direct motor vehicle crash claims through its outreach programme, ‘RAF on the Road’ and the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) will bring its mobile bus to enable motorists to check their road traffic infringements and make payments arrangements.
The Department of Home Affairs, South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the Department of Health will also be offering services on the sidelines of the Imbizo. There will also be road safety activations that will be taking place throughout the Imbizo.
Minister Nzimande and Premier Mchunu will handover bicycles to deserving learners in the Municipality through the Shova Kalula programme which is part of the non-motorised transport initiative by the Department.
The Minister will also handover groceries to child headed households who lost parents as a result of road crashes.
Through the Imbizo, members of the community and learners will be provided information regarding career within the transport industry.
