Minister Motshekga joins NECT and Gauteng Education to celebrate Mandela Month with school communities in Katlehong

The Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga and the National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) will join hands with 10 school communities in Katlehong to celebrate Mandela Month activities on Saturday, 27 July 2019.

The minister and CEO of the NECT, Mr Godwin Khosa will join education sector unions, stakeholders, civil society and the community of Katlehong to clean up Tamaho, Abraham Hlope, Keketso, De Bryn, Khumalo, Katlehong, Lungisani, Mogobeng, Monde, Ukhanyiso and Intokozo Primary Schools. The planned activities include cleaning, painting and gardening. Schools with vegetable patches will receive seeds. 

Gauteng MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi has pleaded with the communities to protect for their schools and this joint effort is aimed at encouraging the community of Katlehong to take care of and clean their local schools in the spirit of International Mandela Day.

The programme will then move to the Ntuthuko Central Hall for the Second Chance Matric Support Programme and Read to Lead Campaign exhibition. The minister will address the community and share info on how they can be part of the Read to Lead Campaign and encourage out of school youth, who still want to write their matric to register with the Second Chance Programme.
