Minister Kubayi saddened by murder of Human Settlements employee in KwaZulu-Natal

The Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi, is saddened by the brutal killing of Mr Mfanufikile Cele, a family man and an employee of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements, affectionately known as “Snow”.

Minister Kubayi sends her heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the entire human settlements family after Mr Cele’s life was cut short during an attempted car hijacking in Ntuzuma, eThekwini, KwaZulu-Natal.

Mr Cele (57) was part of a dedicated team responsible for resettling households that were affected by the devastating floods experienced in April. He worked very closely with eThekwini Municipality Security Management and was tasked with updating victims of floods about the progress in the relocation of families from community halls.

“I call on the community members who might have information about this incident to work with law enforcement authorities tasked with a responsibility to investigate this senseless murder. This will help the investigating team to speedily bring the perpetrators to book”, said Minister Kubayi.

“The safety of our staff members is a responsibility for all including the community they serve. We count on everyone to protect those involved in various human settlements projects including recovery efforts in KwaZulu-Natal, as the government continues to ramp up the rollout of Temporary Residential Units and to build houses for displaced families”, added Minister Kubayi.
