Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane hands over tittle deeds to claimant communities in Polokwane, 23 Nov

The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, will on Friday, 23rd November 2018, presides over the handover of Titles Deeds to 30  claimant communities (Communal Property Associations) which have successfully claimed their land back through the Land Restitution programme across all five districts of the Limpopo Province.  Bolivia Lodge which is situated in Polokwane is the venue for the handover ceremony.

Over and above the Title Deeds handover, the Minister will also handout financial compensation to seven (7) individual families to the combined total of R25 million.  Due to developments on the land previously occupied by these families, land rights restoration isn’t possible hence the financial compensation.

The recipients of the titles deeds and financial compensation are communities which were abruptly uprooted from their productive lands by the Apartheid regime. Besides restoration of dignity, the handing out of title deeds signifies total empowerment of black people   in terms of ownership of land in title and the potential of unlocking economic opportunities.

The Dept. of Rural Development and Land Reform has through its Commission on Restitution of Land Rights programme continues to restore land back to black people for agriculture, residential and wildlife farming and other diversified economic enterprises and empowerment as part of its mandate.

The restoration of these prime farms has not only brought about the reversal of the atrocious and demeaning Natives Land Act 27 of 1913 but also the reversal of the skewed land ownership patterns in Limpopo province and South Africa at large whereby black communities have full title agricultural land, game farms and mining land.

The media is invited to attend and the details of the handover ceremony are as follows;
