Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula conducts oversight visit to monitor progress of station upgrades on Cape Town’s Northern Line
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula will on Monday, 17 January 2022, conduct an oversight visit of the Cape Town Northern Line and the Western Cape Rail Management and Traffic Control Centre in Bellville.
The Minister will be joined by the PRASA management and various stakeholders. The purpose of the Minister’s visit is to monitor progress made in the station upgrade project.
PRASA has embarked on a series of Station Improvements in anticipation of service resumption as well as delivering the Annual Performance Plan through the National Station Improvement Project (NSIP).
PRASA’s National Station Improvement Project (NSIP) program is meant to address minor station upgrades and introduce noticeable and lasting improvements at small and medium-sized railway stations.
The station upgrades are part of PRASA’s ongoing efforts to recover vandalized stations, revitalize the rail service and improve customer experience.

The visit will include a walk-about at:
- Western Cape Rail Management and Traffic Control Centre
- Tygerberg Station
- Elsies River Station
- Vasco Station
The meeting point will be Cape Town station at the Premiere Class Lounge.
A media briefing is scheduled at Vasco Station at the end of the inspection.
