Minister Fikile Mbalula condemns  shooting of two traffic wardens

The Minister of Transport, Mr Fikile Mbalula has condemned the tragic shooting of two traffic wardens of the eThekwini Metropolitan Police Department.

According to the eThekwini Municipality, the two metro traffic wardens were traveling  in Mpumalanga Township between Durban and Pietermaritzburg when they came under attack on Monday.

“Traffic police are our heroes. These civil servants protect us daily, ensuring that we arrive safely at our places of work and back home to our loved ones. It is devastating that these two traffic wardens will never be able to return back home to their families ever again. Their lives were taken away from them, robbing their families and country. All this demands our strongest condemnation,” Minister Mbalula said.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced that an investigation has been launched. The motive for the attack is still unknown.

“I send my sincere condolences to their families, friends and colleagues. We trust the investigation into this matter will provide all of us with answers as to why such a  gruesome incident would occur,” the Minister ended.
