Minister Dlamini Zuma and Office of the Chief Whip in the KZN Legislature to visit schools in Inchanga circuit
The Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, together with the Office of the Chief Whip in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Legislature will visit schools in the Inchanga Circuit on 10 January 2018.
The visit is part of the KwaXimba School Functionality Programme, an initiative of the KZN Legislature, which is aimed at monitoring and ensuring that teaching and learning happen on the first day of all public schools in the province. For the past six years in January, members of the KZN Legislature including the Executive, have been visiting schools across the province to amplify the value of education and ensure that schools have the necessary resources to perform.
The visit is also part of the government-led back to school campaign that is aimed at mobilising all stakeholders to prioritise education and contribute in improving educational outcomes.
The Minister and the Office of the Speaker will specifically visit the Nogunjwa High School, Luphaphe High School, St Julius High School and Mdepha High School.
Education remains an apex priority for the South African government. The National Development Plan (NDP) identifies improving education, training and innovation as some of the key elements in creating a better and more prosperous South Africa by 2030. Education is an essential tool to lift people out of poverty and enable them to live a better life. It has the intrinsic value in creating societies that are better able to respond to the challenges of the 21st century.
The visits to the schools will be held as follows:
- 07h30-09h30 – Visit to Nogunjwa High School
- 09h45-11h30 – Visit to Luphaphe High School
- 12h00-13h30 – Visit to St Julius High School
- 4h00-15h30 – Meeting with the Principals of all schools (Mdepha High School)
