Minister Blade Nzimande visits University of Pretoria as part of monitoring Coronavirus Covid-19 readiness for phased return of students, postponed

Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande to visit the University Of Pretoria to check its state of readiness for the phased return of students and staff

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, will visit the Hatfield campus of the University of Pretoria (UP), on Friday, 3 July to check its state of readiness for the phased return of student and staff at the university.

Minister Nzimande will be accompanied by senior officials of the Department of Higher Education and Training, Senior executives of the University, Labour representatives and the Student Representative Council.

During the visit, the University of Pretoria (UP) Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Tawana Kupe will present on the university’s readiness for the phased return of students, then the delegation will tour the university’s facilities, particularly the student health centre, self-isolation facilities and residences.

Minister will also visit university’s library which hosts the production facility for COVID-19 accessories such as door handles, floor cones that ensure people maintain social distancing and face shields. It is at this facility where the Minister will be welcomed by the first client-service robot in Africa.

Minister Nzimande will be joined by HIGHER HEALTH which is also putting additional infrastructure both in the form of daily screening for all Students and Staff entering campuses as well as additional infrastructure towards increasing essential clinical and psycho-social health services.
