Minister Blade Nzimande sends condolences to Umngungundlovu TVET College

Minister Blade Nzimande statement on the passing of Umgungundlovu TVET students and employee

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, passes his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and the entire Umngungundlovu TVET College on the tragic and untimely passing on of Sakhiwo Zuma (College Co - Curricular Officer), Nobuhle Radebe (Edendale Campus), Thembeka Zuma (Midlands Campus) Anele Dlomo (Plessislaer Campus), Mamelo Lerara (Plessislaer Campus) and  Khanyisile Khoza (Edendale campus) who were attending the TVET athletics games in Polokwane – Limpopo.

On Sunday (10 April 2022), the team was involved in a car crash on the N3 highway around Escourt on their return from Polokwane. According to the paramedics, the crash was caused by a vehicle that was travelling northbound ( in Johannesburg direction).

Minister Nzimande also wishes Siphokazi Gambu (Msunduzi Campus) a speedy recovery. She sustained injuries during this incident and was admitted to hospital.

The Minister has directed the uMgungundlovu TVET college management and Higher Health to provide the necessary support and comfort to the families of the deceased and to provide further care to students admitted to hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced upon finalization with their families.
