Minister Blade Nzimande embarks on walkabout At Go! Durban Integrated Public Transport Network Project, 22 Mar

The Minister of Transport, Dr. Blade Nzimande, invites members of the media to the Ministerial walkabout on the Go! Durban Integrated Public Transport Network (IPTN) Project on Friday, 22nd March 2019.

The aim of the walkabout is for the Minister to conduct an infrastructural pre-inspection and to meet with all the role players and stakeholders who played a critical role in ensuring the delivery of this project. Other prominent stakeholders include, the Minubus Taxi Associations, Bus Representatives and other role players who contributed to the project.

Minister Nzimande will be joined by the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Mxolisi Kaunda and the Executive Mayor of Ethekwini Municipality, Cllr Zandile Gumede.

The planning for an Integrated Public Transport Network commenced in 2009 in Ethekwini. The Ethekwini Municipality was the first Metropolitan to develop a wall-to-wall network plan, which consists of nine (9) corridors. One of the corridor is a rail corridor and a feeder to other networks.

The first phase of the corridor, which is from Pinetown to Bridge City is scheduled to go live in May 2019. President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to officially launch the project.

  • Stop over at the Crossroad site- to hand over the completed taxi rank
  • Stop over at Lwandle Station/Cycling Academy
  •  Drive through the C3 corridor in Pinetown CBD
  • Inspection of completed Cornubia Blvd Bridge over the N2 on Corridor C9.
