Minister Barbara Creecy celebrates World Hunger Day, 16 Oct

Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries joins Gift of the Givers for World Hunger Day 

The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries Ms Barbara Creecy, in partnership with the Gift of the Givers will donate agricultural implements and seeds for immediate planting of a food garden on World Hunger Day, in Graaff-Reinet, Eastern Cape, tomorrow Friday 16 October 2020.

The Minister will proceed to lead a clean-up campaign in and around the Narsingh Street Primary School. Parents and the wider community are expected to participate in the clean-up. Graaff-Reinet Recyclers will be on site to direct the process of collection and separation of waste to transform rubble into rands.  

The Minister will be joined by the Eastern Cape MEC for Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Mr Mlungisi Gerald Mvoko, Beyers Naude Municipality Mayor Deon de Vos, representatives from the Graaff-Reinet municipality, school principals, teachers and other relevant role players.  

Gift of the Givers has drilled boreholes at ten schools in Graaff-Reinet. Drip irrigation systems, grading the school land for vegetable garden sites, providing implements, seeds and education and actively pursuing the cleaning of the environment outside all these schools will commence within days. Gift of the Givers will cover all costs. Narsing Street Primary School will receive trees as a gift from Minister Creecy on the day.
