Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, Deputy Minister Zizi Kodwa and MEC Faith Mazibuko to undertake a district development model working visit to the City of Ekurhuleni to support the fight against gender based violence

The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, and State Security Agency Deputy Minister, Mr Zizi Kodwa, are scheduled to undertake a District Champion working visit to the City of Ekurhuleni on 10 December 2020. The ministerial visit is a continuation of the work the District Champions have been doing in partnership with the Gauteng Province and the City of Ekurhuleni to accelerate service delivery in the City’s priority areas.

The visit is aimed at monitoring and supporting Ekurhuleni’s plans to fight Gender Based Violence for the entire year. The District Champions will also consider short and long term interventions to ensure that victims are adequately supported and protected.

The Gauteng MEC for Community, Ms Faith Mazibuko, is also scheduled to hand over cars at Tembisa South Police Station to 11 Victim Empowerment Centres attached to the police stations that have been flagged as Gender Based Violence hotspots in the province. The symbolic handover which is set to take place at Tembisa South Police Station is part of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s response towards the fight against gender based violence and femicide (GBVF). The MEC has noted that many Victim Friendly Rooms have a lot of callout while the resources are inadequate.

The Department of Home Affairs will offer services at the Zonkizizwe Police Station on the day. This will help victims and members of the community to access enabling documents. Members of the community are encouraged to come wearing their masks.
