Department of Mineral Resources & Energy Signing Ceremony in respect of Bid Window 5 under the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP)

The Integrated Resource Plan (IRP 2019) and associated Ministerial Determinations guide the roll out of procurement under the Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (IPPPP). Following NERSA concurrence, the Ministerial Determination for 2 600 MW capacity was gazetted on 25 September 2020. The Request for Proposals under Bid Window 5 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) was launched on 12 April 2021, and the subsequent announcements of the successful bidders were made on 28 October 2021.

Following the confirmation of all required regulatory approvals, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy will host a project agreement signing ceremony with an expected 13 Preferred Bidders in Centurion, on Thursday, 8 December 2022. Once completed, these projects will add around 975 megawatts to the national grid. More details of the projects signing will be made available at the event and in a media release.

The Minister is also expected to make announcements with regard to the REIPPPP Bid Window 6 procurement.
