Free State Government sends condolences to family of the late Minister Collins Chabane

Media statement on the passing of Minister Collins Chabane

On behalf of the Free State Provincial Government and the people of the Free State, Premier Magashule wishes to take this opportunity to join the President of the Republic, His Excellency, Mr JG Zuma in sending heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, friends, comrades and loved ones of the now deceased Minister of Public Service and Administration, Mr Collins Chabane and two of his bodyguards, Sergeant Lesiba Sekele and Sergeant Lawrence Lentsoane.

Minister Chabane served his people and his country with the utmost of distinctions in all his areas of deployment. He joined and served the ANC and its underground operations voluntarily. He left the country to help to propel a faster realisation of the dream of Freedom. He returned to the country and contributed immensely to the development of South Africa into a giant to be reckoned with in the community of nations.

He was a pioneer of the new trajectory of governance as the Ministering the Presidency responsible for Monitoring and Evaluation. This was a new Ministry focussed on ensuring that our country was more accountable to its people and did what it had committed to do. As a Minister of Public Service and Administration he continued to build governance machinery that would propel faster growth and development.

"As the ANC Free State Provincial Government, we are deeply saddened by the loss of such a dedicated cadre. A cadre who spoke less and did more to emancipate his people from the trappings of poverty, unemployment and inequality. He died on duty with his protectors Sergent Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane, which is a sign of the extent and level of his commitment," said Premier Magashule.

"We trust that the family of the Minister and his protectors will find consolation in the many messages of condolences that will surely pour in for this gallant fighter and revolutionary. We had good, constructive interactions and his good deeds will engrave an epitaph in our hearts and minds that will never be erased by wishes of common men".

“We shall remember this gallant leader who has always been consistent in the struggle for changing the lives of the people. The legacy of Minister Chabane, particularly his humility and discipline, shall be remembered all the time and be exemplary for the future generations,” concludes Premier Magashule.
