Deputy Minister Pinky Kekana leads gender-based violence panel discussion, 5 Oct

Deputy Minister of Communications, Pinky Kekana and Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, John Jeffrey will on Friday, 05 October 2018, lead a gender-based violence (GBV) panel discussion under the topic: Gender-Based Violence and Media Ethics.

The panel members will include representatives from various NGO’s that are working on GBV such as Soul City and Total Shutdown, media will be represented by the South African National Editors Forum (SANEF) and the Press Council. The panelists will discuss the following points:

  • Unintended consequences of media reports on victims of GBV
  • How media can report sensitively and responsibly on GBV cases taking into consideration the well-being of the victim
  • How the information shared by the media affects legal processes on GBV cases
