MEC Madoda Sambatha on closure of Home Affairs and Post Office due to non-compliance of Coronavirus COVID-19 regulations

The North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha has today ordered the closure of the Wolmaranstad Post Office and the Home Affairs offices because of their persistent failure to comply with COVID-19 regulations.

The two institutions have been found to be consistent with non-compliance with COVID-19 regulations regarding social distancing, wearing of masks in public and sanitizing.

Earlier in the month of January, MEC Madoda Sambatha also closed a supermarket at Zeerust in Lehurutshe and one store in Tlokwe. Since then the MEC continues to crisscross the Province raising awareness on COVID-19, encouraging public compliance to prevention measures and checking businesses for compliance to the regulations.

“We will continue to enforce compliance to COVID-19 regulations to prevent further spread of the virus. We will also not hesitate to order closure of any business or facility where there is complete disregard to COVID-19 prevention measures”, said MEC Sambatha.

MEC Sambatha has committed to continue with the compliance and awareness campaign drives to ensure to protect the community and individuals people from infection.

“Though we are about to rollout the vaccine, it does not mean other prevention measures like social distancing, wearing of masks and sanitizing are to be abandoned. They remain key to prevent the spread of the virus. Vaccination should be considered one method of prevention”, said MEC Sambatha

The wearing of masks in public is still mandatory and so is social distancing and sanitizing. All residents are requested to comply with the regulations. MEC Sambatha further said that South Africans must not expect the government to use the security cluster to remind them of their own personal care and health responsibility. There is a need for all members of community to continue to comply with the regulations to minimize the impact and spread of this contagious enemy.
