MEC Nkonyeni calls for drastic measures against irresponsible drivers as she addresses mourners in Nongoma during a mass funeral of five people who died on the R34 crash

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Ms Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni today, 14 April 2021, attended a mass funeral of five family members who were killed in a car crash on the R34 near Vryheid that claimed the lives of 10 people after the Easter long weekend.

Reports revealed that a Ford Ranger carrying six occupants collided head-on with a Mazda 3 which was carrying seven occupants claiming the lives of seven people at the scene of the accident.

Six critically injured survivors were treated by paramedics at the scene before being transported to hospital for further medical attention. Tragically three other victims died later in hospital.
