The North West Province has received additional Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines over and above the 3900 that arrived on 17 February. This time around the Province has received 5360 vaccine doses allocated to the second batch.
The first half of this dose totaling 2600 arrived on Sunday this week. The remaining ones which are 2 760 will arrive next week to make it 5360 total number of doses delivered to the Province in the second batch.
North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha has welcomed additional vaccines as the vaccination drive begins to pick up momentum. “We welcome additional 5360 doses of vaccines. Many of our health professionals have been vaccinated already. Many more have registered and are ready to take the vaccine”, said MEC Madoda Sambatha.
As of Monday, 01 March, a total of 7517 health professionals have been vaccinated.
Registration has also progressed well. A total of 34152 people have already registered for vaccination in the Province. The Bojanala District has 14347 registered, 10678 in Dr Kenneth Kaunda, 4863 in Ngaka Modiri Molema while Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati has 4264 registered.
The front line health workers were first to receive the vaccine hence many of those registered are health professionals. A total of 16748 health professionals are registered with 6623 in Bojanala, 5645 in Dr Kenneth Kaunda, 2492 in Ngaka Modiri Molema and 1988 in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District.
MEC Sambatha has also announced activation of additional vaccination sites. The Province has 26 public and 17 private facilities as vaccination sites. The first batch of vaccines were only administered at Job Shimankana Tabane Hospital in Rustenburg and Klerksdorp Hospital. There is now three more sites activated which makes it five vaccination sites.
“We have now added Moses Kotane, Life Peglerae (private) and Mahikeng Provincial Hospital making our vaccination sites five. Many of our vaccination sites are ready, we will activate them as and when vaccines are delivered”, said MEC Sambatha.
The Department continues to encourage adherence to all prevention measures against COVID-19. Vaccine is only one of the measures used to curb the spread of the virus. It does not replace social distancing, wearing masks and sanitizing.
