MEC Alan Winde joins Transport Month Bike2Work bike bus in Cape Town, 12 Oct

Minister of Economic Opportunities, Alan Winde will on Friday join the Open Streets Bike2Work bike bus, cycling from Claremont to the Cape Town CBD.

October is Transport Month and the Open Streets organisation is running weekly Bike2Work events to encourage Capetonians to cycle to work.

Minister Winde said: “Cycling to work has a number of benefits- it decreases traffic congestion and carbon emissions, and has health benefits. Following a number of petrol price increases this year, it’s also an excellent way to save money.”

“By making cycling safe and accessible in our province, we have the ability to connect people to employment and educational opportunities. ” Minister Winde said.

Participation in the event is free and anyone with a bicycle and helmet can join.

For those who don’t own a bicycle, Pedal Power Association and the Bicycling Empowerment Network will provide #Bike4All commuter bikes for participants to use for the bike bus rides. These are available on a limited, first come, first served basis and must be booked in advance by RSVPing to sindile@openstreets.co.za.

These bicycles can be purchased at a special offer of R500 during Transport Month.
