Minister Fikile Mbalula presents recovery programme for Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa, 12 Mar

Minister Mbalula and PRASA outlines Mabopane recovery programme

The Minister of Transport, Mr. Fikile Mbalula will tomorrow present the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa’s (PRASA) programme to recover and get back the Pretoria-Mabopane metro-rail line in operation.

In 2019, His Excellency, President Ramaphosa travelled on the same rail line on a train that subsequently got stuck and delayed due to issues related to cable theft.

Last week, the Minister and the PRASA Administrator, Mr. Bongisizwe Mpondo unpacked key aspects of the Cape Town Central Line Recovery Programme in the Western Cape and committed to do the same in Gauteng, for the Pretoria - Mabopane line.

Since his assumption of duty, the Minister has made PRASA a priority area describing the entity as broken and in urgent need of fixing.
