Limpopo hosts “OK” Matsepe Public Lecture, 19 Mar

Limpopo Provincial Government in partnership with University of South Africa (Unisa), “OK” Matsepe and Thobela FM will host “OK” Matsepe Public Lecture

In 2018, Limpopo Provincial Government and University Of South Africa has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and following this signing, both parties agreed to host “OK” Matsepe Public Lecture.

Mr “OK’ Matsepe is a distinguished and renowned author who has contributed to the body of indigenous language knowledge using the Sepedi language to contribute to the knowledge economy. He was a novelist and poet who was twice awarded the S.E Mqhayi Prize by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (South African Academy for Arts and Science).

Oliver Kgadime (phukubjane) Matsepe was born on 22nd March 1932 in Tafelkop, Groblersdal district. He was the son of Malua Matsepe, senior police sergeant and the grandson of Chief Bloeu of the Kopa tribe.He received his education at mission schools. From 1942 to 1949 he received his primary school education at Phokoane United Christian School at Nebo.

In 1945, his schooling was interrupted to enable him to attend circumcision school.From 1950 he furthered his education at another mission school, Botshabelo High School in Middleburg, Transvaal. He was baptized and received full membership of the Lutheran Church, also attending confirmation classes at Botshabelo. In 1955 he completed his secondary education when he matriculated at Kilnerton Institution, a Methodist College in Pretoria.

He is the author of books such as; Megokgo ya Bjoko, Kgati ya Moditi, Kgorong ya Mosate, Todi ya Dinose, Letsofalela and Tsaka ya Mafuri.

The “OK” Matsepe Public Lecture will be an annual event and this year public lecture is scheduled as follows:

The theme of the public lecture is “Towards a Decolonial Identity: Issues, Challenges and Opportunities “The public lecture will be attended by more than 250 audience from different provinces ,academics, students, learners, government officials, politicians, writers and political analysts.
