Launch of the new Phase 2 Government Motor Transport building at 3 Rusper Street, Maitland

The Department of Transport and Public Works has completed the construction of a new R73 million multi-storey office building at 3 Rusper Street, Maitland. The new building is Phase 2 of the project to centralise all Government Motor Transport (GMT) operations from three locations: Roeland Street, Hope Street and Paarden Eiland.

A Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) site adjacent to the new GMT building is being used to park government-owned vehicles. The external courtyard has been re-designed so that there is space for electric vehicle charging points. The vehicles are used by government officials to render service delivery to the public.

The Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers will be launching the new building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
